Trainees and apprentices
Our school and college leaver programmes give you a great opportunity to gain a recognised academic or vocational qualification from a college or university, while you’re employed full-time at Skanska.
On-the-job training gives you the chance to earn while you learn. As a trainee you’ll study for a part-time college or university course financed by Skanska , while earning a salary. You’ll be able to study for a BTEC/HNC or HND qualification, usually through a day-release study programme.
You’ll learn on the job, but our formal apprenticeship scheme gives you the opportunity to gain a valuable qualification at college while working with us and earning a salary. Once you’re qualified, we’ll also build you a structured career path to help you realise your potential.

Warren – Apprentice Civil Engineer
“There are trains running across the viaduct I helped to widen. It’s brilliant to know I was involved in its construction and I hope I’ll be able to show it to my grandchildren!”
Becky – Trainee Quantity Surveyor
“I took part in the government’s Building Britain campaign to encourage more women to join the construction industry. My tweet certainly had an impact as it was retweeted by the Prime Minister!”
Olivia – Trainee Quantity Surveyor
“I noticed there was a problem with a supplier’s charges. As a result of my investigations, we didn’t have to pay out nearly as much.”
Mitchell – Apprentice Piling Operative
“I’ve moved on by being willing to take up every opportunity that’s offered. It got me noticed and proved I would work hard at whatever I did.”
“At Pinewood Studios, I volunteered and became the first student in my division to be an environmental champion. We were named as the best environmental contractor on site for best practice implementation.”
As long as you’re willing to work hard you will reap the benefits of a fruitful career with SkanskaNaz Huseinmiya
